Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) bashed the Biden administration on Friday, calling it the “worst administration in the history of the United States of America” due to its response to the U.S. border and migrant crisis.

Van Drew, who used to be a part of the Democratic Party, slammed a report that the administration was considering placing migrants from New York City into an airport in Atlantic County, New Jersey. The airport is reportedly on a short list put together by the administration of 11 federal properties under consideration to house migrants.

“We’re going to fight this with every ounce of strength that we have,” Van Drew told Fox News. “It is the wrong thing. You know, when we said what was happening at the southern border was going to affect the entire United States of America, this is what happens. I want people to listen out there. This is not just an Arizona problem, or a Texas problem, or a California problem. This is a United States of America problem. And now they want to come into our beautiful county, our beautiful South Jersey, and try to ruin that as well.”

“This is a disaster in the making. I mean, this is the worst administration. I used to say, in my lifetime. Now, this is the worst administration in the history of the United States of America,” the congressman later added.

Van Drew, who represents the second district which includes part of the county, sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and President Joe Biden on Thursday, stating his strong dissatisfaction with relocating migrants to his district.

Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) has also argued that the state had no room for the overflow of migrants on Thursday.

“I don’t see any scenario where we’re going to be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state,” Murphy told New Jersey 12. “You need scale, enormous amount of federal support, resources that go beyond anything that we can afford. Putting everything else aside, I just don’t see it. I would suspect that that will continue to be the case.”

New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and the state of Massachusetts were hit particularly hard by the crisis on the southern border, outside of the border cities and states. New York City has seen more than 100,000 migrants flood its streets since spring of 2022, and Massachusetts has had to take in 20,000 people.

Gov. Maura Healey (D-MA) activated 250 members of the Massachusetts National Guard on Thursday to help coordinate the needs of the migrants.
