“What’s frightening is that Putin does not share any values of democracy, of justice, of respect for the lives of people, concern for children or anything,” Pelosi said. “He is frightening, but what is doubly frightening is a person like the former president who thinks that is OK. Isn’t that sad? But it’s so sad and so extreme that it’s — everything to me is not frightening but an opportunity.”
When discussing China, Pelosi explained that it has engaged in “transferring technology of weapons of mass destruction to rogue countries” and “violated almost every trade standard of access [and] of piracy.”

“And in terms of governance, need I tell you? Hong Kong, Tibet, Uyghurs, the threat to Taiwan, and the rest,” Pelosi said. “So, we don’t have shared values, but we have a shared planet, and we have to work with the Chinese to save the planet because they are now, I think, the biggest emitter. If not us, they are second. And they are part of the solution in all of this.”
Pelosi also commented on the strikes of the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, as they protest across her home state of California. She acknowledged that artificial intelligence, which she called a “double-edged sword,” has been a sticking point in negotiations.

“But right now, we have a strike in the creativity industry — writers and actors and the rest — and there has to be respect for the creativity that they have,” Pelosi said. “And AI has an impact, could have an impact on that, and we have to recognize that right, write laws to respect them in the Constitution. We have respect for copyright.”
The former speaker has served in four different districts in California.
