WATCH LIVE: White House holds briefing as Hurricane Idalia batters Florida

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will hold a press conference on Wednesday as Hurricane Idalia passes through Florida, bringing high winds and extreme flooding.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, reaching winds of 125 mph.

Storm surge and hurricane warnings are in effect for several areas of Florida, as well as coastal regions in Georgia and South Carolina. Idalia is expected to affect 46 counties in Florida, with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) issuing evacuations in 23 counties.

President Joe Biden is expected to speak later on Wednesday regarding his administration’s response to the hurricane. The Biden administration is working closely with DeSantis to extend federal aid and resources to assist with the storm damages.

Biden approved an emergency declaration on Monday, as well.

The White House press briefing will begin at 12:45 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.
