FILE – This is a March 21, 1951, file photo showing Mickey Mantle in Los Angeles. Most kids who collect sports cards when they are young usually end up storing them in boxes for years and years. That’s where they stay until something prompts the desire to go through them. For a 76-year-old collector from New Jersey, it was seeing a 1952 Mickey Mantle card sold at auction for $2.88 million earlier this year. After looking through the collection he owns with his brother, he found five Mantle cards of lesser quality from the same year and is now selling them at auction. (AP Photo/File) AP

A jersey worn by New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle in 1958 is on pace to fetch a record price at auction.

The “Mick’s” game-worn jersey already has a bid of $3.25 million, which is far greater than the roughly $2.2 million that set the current record price for a jersey worn by Mantle, according to a report.

Mantle wore the jersey during the season’s home opener against the Milwaukee Braves when the Yankees avenged their 1958 World Series loss.

It has accompanying documentation and at least seven photo matches, according to Heritage Auctions, who claim the uniform is in near-perfect condition.

In fact, it is a mere one button short of its unaltered condition, which has allowed it to receive a Superior/Superior-Excellent designation of 9.5/10, the report noted.

No stains, moth holes, or considerable damage is present on the flannel of the jersey.

“It’s rare to see an all-original Yankees jersey from that era,” Heritage Auctions director of sports auctions Chris Ivy said.

“To have a 1950s era all-original Mickey Mantle pinstripes jersey that is photo-matched to several games is very scarce,” he added.
