California residents who applied and qualified for the Long Beach Pledge will see their payments in one day. The guaranteed income pilot program was created last year for families struggling with finances.
The payments are slated for issuance on Aug. 16, the third Wednesday of the month. Launched through the Long Beach Recovery Act, the program will issue a monthly sum of $500 for a year to 250 eligible families with children to provide assistance to an area that took an economic toll from the pandemic, Long Beach’s west-central 90813 ZIP code.

About half of residents in the area live below 150% of the poverty level, according to Long Beach Pledge’s website.
Applications closed shortly after the start of this year, and families must have been below 100% of the federal poverty line and have one income earner for their household.

The Fund for Guaranteed Income, the program’s nonprofit partner, also helps with economic recovery and created a separate fund in Compton, California, giving 800 families between $300 and $600 in payments.
California households that were selected to receive aid will choose their method of payout, either through PayPal, direct deposit, Venmo, or a prepaid card.
