Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin returned to NFL Saturday for the first time since his mid-game cardiac arrest earlier this year.

Hamlin had three tackles in the game against the Indianapolis Colts, which lead to his team to a 23-19 win. It was his first game since taking a medical break from the sport last season.

On Jan. 2, Hamlin collapsed on the field after standing up from a tackle against a Cinncinati Bengals player, which prompted officials to halt and then ultimately end the game. Personnel managed to restart his heart on the field. His uncle would go on to report that his heart stopped again while receiving treatment at a Buffalo, New York hospital. The NFL player was medically cleared to play in April.

“Mamba mentality, no quit in me!” Hamlin posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday.

There were five Bills players that opted not to suit up for the game due to various injuries. Additionally, during the game defensive tackle DJ Dale and offensive tackle Tommy Doyle were injured. Doyle injured his knee and Dale had a rib and back contusion.
