Food stamps: Direct August SNAP payment worth up to $1,691 for Arizona residents ends in six days

Arizona will finish distributing food stamps to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients for the month of August in six days.

All SNAP benefits, worth up to $1,691, will be sent out to Arizona residents by Sunday.

In the Grand Canyon State, the benefits are sent out on the first 13 days of each month, depending on the first letter of a beneficiary’s last name, according to the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

A household of eight can receive a maximum payment of $1,691, while a household of four is allotted a maximum of $939. Additionally, a household of one receives up to $281. SNAP adds up to $211 for each additional member in an Arizona household.

A household of one or two members receives a minimum payment of $23 in monthly benefits.

Roughly 825,700 Arizona residents participate in SNAP, accounting for 11% of the state’s population, according to the most recent data compiled by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. About 41,206,900 people, or 12% of the national population, receive food stamps as of fiscal 2022.

The monthly amount for eligible SNAP recipients can be accessed through a Nutrition Assistance electronic benefits transfer card, which can be swiped like a debit card at checkout in most grocery stores, convenience stores, and participating farmers markets.

The SNAP benefits schedule for fiscal 2023 began on Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30.
