EMPLOYMENT GROWTH SLOWING WITH 187,000 JOBS ADDED IN JULY

The actor was best known for his role on Breaking Bad as cartel don Hector Salamanca and its subsequent prequel, Better Call Saul. Margolis’s character spent nearly the entire first series as a mute who could not walk, which would earn him his first Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor.

Margolis’s portfolio included Noah, Black Swan, The Wrestler, Pi, and Scarface. His silver screen debut came in 1976 in the film The Opening of Misty Beethoven. Most recently, Margolis appeared in the second season of Your Honor, a Max series that also featured Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad.

“We join millions of fans in mourning the passing of the immensely talented Mark Margolis, who – with his eyes, a bell, and very few words – turned Hector Salamanca into one of the most unforgettable characters in the history of television,” the Breaking Bad account posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “He will be missed.”

“A powerful screen presence!” fellow castmate of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul Bob Odenkirk posted on X. “Mark made me laugh in the van on the way to set with his jokes and comments and I only hope I have half his energy and focus when ‘Action’ was shouted. Thank you, Mark, and condolences to your family.”
