Food stamps: Maine SNAP recipients will start seeing August benefits in six days

Those who receive food stamps in the state of Maine will begin to see their monthly payments in six days.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the state delivers payments to its recipients from the 10th to the 14th of each month. Payments for this month will be issued from Aug. 10-14, based on birth date.

Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 get their benefits on Aug. 10, with those born on days ending in 1 or 8 seeing their benefits on Aug. 11, those born on days ending in 2 or 3 getting their benefits on Aug. 12, those born on days ending in 4 or 7 receiving their benefits on Aug. 13, and those born on days ending in 5 or 6 seeing their monthly benefits on Aug. 14.

The average amount a beneficiary will receive is also dependent on a variety of factors, but the average monthly benefit in the state per household is $168.

In the Pine Tree State, those applying may not make more than a certain income, depending on the size of their household. The range of maximum annual income is $26,973 for a household of one to $65,009 for a household of five. The maximum income requirements for other household sizes vary and can be found on the state’s website.

Recipients in Maine may use their benefits for groceries along with seeds, but they may not be used for prepared meals.

To use the monthly benefits, those enrolled in the program may use their EBT card at eligible stores. More information on the eligible items for the food stamps program can be found on the state’s website.
