Republicans have been urging to nix the plan to build a new FBI headquarters, with some lawmakers saying they won’t support any funding toward the development.

The prolonged fight over the location of the FBI building has been between Maryland and Virginia, but some GOP members oppose the $4 billion plan altogether.

“I’m not voting for funding for that. I’m not voting for any weaponization of government. And that’s what the FBI is right now — they’re completely rogue,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told NBC News.

Republican concerns about barring the construction of the building stem from members alleging the FBI is weaponizing against the GOP.

“The FBI has been targeting President Trump, his administration, people on his staff, and they continue to stay more focused on people that walked into the Capitol on Jan. 6 rather than local crime, and local crime is out of control,” Greene said. “And so, no, I refuse to fund anything like that brand-new facility.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has recently suggested he might attempt to block the relocation of the FBI administration building, sharing sentiments similar to Greene.

“This idea that we’re going to build a new, big Pentagon and put all the FBI mainly in one place, I don’t think it’s a good structure,” McCarthy said a couple of weeks ago, going against some of his fellow members in a conservative-led proposal to relocate the FBI to Alabama.

Republicans have escalated their attacks on the FBI, taking issue with the two indictments of former President Donald Trump and Hunter Biden’s now-halted plea deal with federal prosecutors, accusing the agency of political bias.

Recently, the General Services Administration announced new qualifications for choosing a location for a new FBI headquarters, highlighting two sites in Maryland and only one in Virginia.
