Former Vice President Mike Pence appeared to take a subtle shot at fellow Republican presidential primary candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), telling an interviewer “we’ll get our own bus” when asked if the Florida governor’s bus tour with a supportive super PAC is blurring the lines of election law.
In a new interview, Pence was asked if the super PAC supporting him for president, Committed to America, would be doing anything in a similar vein to the Iowa bus tour DeSantis took last week, hosted by pro-DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down.

“We don’t coordinate with the Committed to America PAC,” he told Semafor.
“I’m grateful for the work that the Committed to America super PAC is doing, especially here in Iowa. I’m able to read reports after the fact of their efforts on the ground and the results. They’ve been literally talking to hundreds of thousands of caucusgoers, and been able to tell our story,” Pence said.
“Actually, in their contacts, we’re running a solid second place in Iowa,” he claimed. “So I’m grateful for that.”
Some have questioned whether the pro-DeSantis super PAC’s close proximity to the Florida governor is entirely legal, and others have accused the two of blurring the lines of election law, at the very least.
While Never Back Down is an independent expenditure-only political committee, and thereby capable of raising unlimited contributions to finance independent expenditures and independent political activity, it has been incredibly active in grassroots promotion of the Florida governor.

The group has knocked on 1 million doors for DeSantis nationally, just six months out from the Iowa caucuses. It has further established chapters of “Students for DeSantis” on 100 college campuses across the country, with a focus on early primary states.
In a statement, the Super PAC’s spokesperson Jess Szymanski said, “Never Back Down will continue hosting Gov. DeSantis as a special guest at our events well after others drop out of this race.”
