Country music artist Craig Morgan reenlisted to serve in the Army, getting sworn into the Reserve during a concert on Saturday.

The singer was loudly applauded for his reenlistment at the Grand Ole Opry, in which he wore a military uniform while being sworn in. By reenlisting, Morgan told Fox News he was finishing something he had quit because he had only served 17 1/2 years.

“I was always been a little frustrated that I haven’t been able to complete my 20-year assignment,” Morgan said on Monday. “I feel like it’s a special thing to have that letter that says, ‘I served my country for 20 years,’ and so I was given the opportunity to do so, and I’m honored and humbled and proud to be able to do it.”

Morgan, 59, said got his career by playing music “in the barracks,” where his friends encouraged him to pursue music as a career. After writing a few songs, he was contacted by a record label that offered him a publishing deal.

Morgan will continue performing music while he serves. His “God, Faith, Country” tour will launch in September.

When asked about balancing his military and music life with his family, he expressed gratitude for his supportive family, adding that most of his children have already grown up.

Additionally, he has also stayed in shape in his time away from the military.

“I tell people all the time, I use this term, ‘A body in motion stays in motion. A body at rest stays at rest,'” Morgan said. “My objective is to do as much as I can and literally, no pun intended, to be all I can be in every aspect of my life as long as I can.”

Morgan will hold the rank of staff sergeant and warrant officer. On the day of his reenlistment, Morgan shared a photo of a younger version of himself in uniform shaking hands with another soldier, with the post reading, “Once a soldier, always a soldier I love our country.”
