Democratic super PAC outpaces GOP counterpart as parties fight for control of Senate

Senate Democrats’ top super PAC posted a huge fundraising haul as both parties fight for control of the upper chamber next year.
The Senate Majority PAC ended June with $24.6 million in its campaign account, racking up $37 million during the first half of the year, according to NBC News.

Democrats kept control of the Senate in the last midterm election, though a number of individual races were extremely close.
While the Republican opposition raised over double what it reported during the same six-month period in 2021, they raised significantly less than their Democratic counterpart. The Senate Leadership Fund, the PAC aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), reported $10.1 million during the first six months of 2023.
“It’s early in the election cycle. Senate Leadership Fund raised a record amount for the first six months of an off-year, and we feel confident about the pace and trajectory of our fundraising,” Senate Leadership Fund spokeswoman Torunn Sinclair told the Washington Examiner.
Republicans have ramped up efforts to select their candidates for the 2024 battle for the Senate, focusing on key swing states that are expected to be the most vulnerable for Democrats, such as Montana, Arizona, West Virginia, and Michigan.
Conservatives have wanted Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to bow out of the Mountain State’s race, hoping to strengthen the deep red state that has a strong risk of a Democratic extinction.

The Senate GOP leadership-aligned group One Nation has funneled millions of dollars into ads attacking Manchin, pushing for Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV), who was once backed by former President Donald Trump, to flip the seat.
Political action committees have to report their semi-annual numbers to the Federal Election Commission on Monday.
