Hunter Biden’s expected plea deal collapsed in court this week under scrutiny from a federal judge. The “curveball” development had the White House on defense.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden has “no” plans to pardon his son as he faces charges related to tax evasion and lying on a form to obtain a gun. Confronted with a trove of new testimony from IRS whistleblowers and allegations from an FBI informant, the White House tweaked the denial about the president’s involvement with Hunter Biden’s affairs. Previously, Joe Biden claimed he’s “never spoken” to Hunter Biden about foreign business deals, but Jean-Pierre declined to parrot that line. She said, “The president was never in business with his son.”

Also this week, Joe Biden acknowledged his seventh grandchild for the first time, a 4-year-old girl named Navy Joan Roberts.

Hunter Biden fathered the child with an ex-stripper who had to bring him to court to prove paternity and get child support. The family court dispute was recently settled in Arkansas.

“Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy,” the elder Biden said Friday evening in a statement.
