Sound of Freedom will finally get released in other countries beyond the United States and Canada as the film continues its success at the domestic box office.

The news of Sound of Freedom’s international release comes after it was released at the domestic box office in early July, crossing the $100 million mark on Thursday. The film’s international rollout will start with South Africa on Aug. 18, continuing with Australia and New Zealand on Aug. 24. Most of the film’s international release will occur on Aug. 31, when it will release in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, and Costa Rica, among other countries, according to a press release from Angel Studios.

“Since SOUND OF FREEDOM launched in the US, demand has been building around the world in dozens of regions and languages,” said Jared Geesey, senior vice president of global distribution for Angel Studios. “Child trafficking is a global issue, and we hope to build on the incredible momentum here in the states and share the film’s powerful message worldwide.”

As of Wednesday, Sound of Freedom grossed $127 million at the domestic box office since its release on July 4. Over the most recent weekend, the film earned third place at the box office with approximately $20 million, despite strong competition from newcomer blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer.

The film details the true story of how former Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard quit his DHS job and risked his life to journey into the jungles of Colombia in an effort to save children from sex slavery. Ballard is portrayed by Jim Caviezel, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.

On July 19, former President Donald Trump hosted a screening of Sound of Freedom on Wednesday night at his golf course in New Jersey, which was attended by the film’s producer Eduardo Verastegui, Caviezel, Ballard, and Ballard’s wife. After watching the film, Trump encouraged his supporters to watch the movie.

Trump also made a new campaign promise to use Title 42, a policy enacted under his administration that allowed Border Patrol to expel immigrants without granting them an asylum hearing, to end the child trafficking crisis “by returning all trafficked children to their families in their home countries and without delay.”
