Several Texans are being lauded as heroes after they smashed the window of a scorching vehicle to save an infant trapped inside.

Footage of the incident in Harlingen last week was captured by a bystander and has gone viral across social media as meteorologists continue to issue warnings about a blistering heat wave working its way through the southwest, according to a report.

A crowd can be seen surrounding the vehicle, with a pair of men doing everything they can to get inside the vehicle and retrieve the young child.

The infant was locked in the car after the parents forgot their keys inside the vehicle outside of an HEB store, Harlingen Police Department Sgt. Larry Moore said.

Using a large stick, one of the people broke the glass of the windshield before another, reportedly the father, used his hands to remove the glass, according to the video.

A woman then climbed inside the vehicle and handed the father his infant.

No charges are expected to be filed, authorities said.

The heat index had topped 100 degrees Fahrenheit the day of the incident, and it takes only 10 minutes for the internal temperature of a vehicle to increase by 20 degrees, according to a report.

“This potential heat wave is stemming from the heat that has been plaguing the Southwest and some of the West for much of this July,” Fox forecast meteorologist Cody Braud said. “This big area of high pressure is finally going to start expanding east throughout this week.”
