Food stamps: First Illinois SNAP payment for August worth up to $2,113 to arrive in eight days

Illinois households eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive a maximum payment of up to $2,113 in eight days.

SNAP payments are sent out on the same days every month. Specific arrival dates depend on a household’s Social Security number, last name, case number, or account number.

In Illinois, payments are sent out beginning Aug. 1 to Aug. 10. Older cases can be sent out until Aug. 20.

In Illinois, eligible recipients must be a citizen of the U.S. or have qualified immigrant status for five years or more. Immigrants who have not lived in the U.S. for five years may also qualify for benefits if they are children or pregnant women or noncitizen adults who have a serious medical condition.

A household of one can receive up to $281 in SNAP benefits. A household of six can receive up to $1,339 and a household of 10 can receive a maximum payment of $2,113. For households with over 10 people, an additional $211 is included for each person.

Illinois residents receiving food stamps make up 16% of the population, amounting to approximately 1.98 million people in the state. The average payment per household member per month is $189.
