Chapter President Nelson Linder said its members arrived to the scene, located at East 11th Street near Waller Street, in East Austin, Sunday morning and found items missing from the inside of the building, as well as a smashed front window, which has since been boarded up.
Linder said multiple computers were stolen, which were found smashed outside of the headquarters, and a number of other various items are still missing. He also told local reporters that the office regularly receives hate calls, as well as other types of personal attacks.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Linder thanked Austin police for their communication with his NAACP chapter, saying in part: “Everyone I have communicated with today from the Austin Police Department has been professional, helpful and responsive. This morning was a small matter of communication. Things are clear and moving forward.”
