“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk wrote.

Musk followed up his tweet with a video of a flashing “X” just minutes later, implying it was the new logo.

“Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X,” Musk captioned a photo of himself in front of a Tesla Model X backdrop. The electric sedan, which debuted in 2015, was the second model after Musk became CEO.

Musk’s space exploration company also features an “X” in its name: SpaceX. It was established in 2002, long before Musk took over Tesla or Twitter.

Dorsey has since moved on to found social media platform Bluesky in 2019, which saw 628,000 mobile downloads in April, according to data analytics firm Sensor Tower. This was a 606% rise in downloads compared to its launch in March.

Meanwhile, Twitter only had 14.9 million downloads in April, a 2% growth rate. During this month, Musk laid off several thousand employees and altered the algorithm of the platform to only recommend verified accounts.
