SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: DIRECT PAYMENT WORTH UP TO $4,555 GOES OUT TO MILLIONS IN FIVE DAYS

Approximately 822,600 Louisiana residents, or about 18% of the state population, benefited from food stamps in fiscal year 2022, per data published by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Over 41,200,000 people, or about 12% of the national population, receive benefits through SNAP.

A household of eight can receive a maximum payment of $1,691, and a household of three is allotted a maximum of $740. SNAP adds up to $211 for each additional member.

The average payment per household member for each month is $192.

The monthly allotment for active SNAP beneficiaries is available for use through an electronic benefits transfer card, which can be swiped at checkout in grocery stores, similar to a debit card.

Food stamps sent out each month depend on household income and household size, along with several other factors, such as the state one lives in. More resources for Louisiana SNAP payments and other services can be found through the state’s Department of Children and Family Service.

The current payment schedule and allotments took effect on Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30 for fiscal 2023.
