President Joe Biden traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Thursday to continue his “Bidenomicsreelection push.

Biden’s 18th trip to Philadelphia, and 30th to the state, comes as consumer sentiment has skyrocketed beyond last year’s peak, and inflation continues to slow. Still, polling on Biden’s economic stewardship remains underwater, with just 38.3% approval, according to the RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

The president opened his remarks at the Philly Shipyard by commenting on the heat wave blanketing Bucks County and the rest of the nation, claiming that historically high temperatures in the U.S. and across the globe disprove the notion “that there’s not global warming.”

The bulk of Biden’s remarks strayed very little from the Bidenomics push he has made in recent months. He touted steadily declining inflation, historically low unemployment, and vowed to continue working to bring manufacturing and union jobs back to the country while advancing America’s green energy transition.

“I got tired of trickle-down economics,” the president declared. “Our plan is working, Bidenomics.”

Biden’s Thursday appearance also served as a “steel-cutting” ceremony for the Arcadia, a vessel constructed to help shore up stability for offshore wind farms. The president noted that all of the Arcadia’s components, down to the rocks it will place at the underwater bases of wind turbines, will be manufactured in the U.S.

“I’m not here to declare victory. We’ve got a long way to go on the economy. I’m here to say, we have more work to do. We have a plan that’s turning things around pretty quickly,” he closed. “Bidenomics is just another way of saying restore the American Dream. Forty years of trickle-down economics and Democratic and Republican administrations limited that dream to those at the top, but I believe every American willing to work hard should be able to get a job no matter where they live — in the heartland or a small town or big cities — raise their kids on a good paycheck, and keep a roof over your head.”

Biden officials, both at the White House and his 2024 reelection effort, are confident the president’s economic polling doesn’t “tell the full story” regarding support for his platform.

Some White House officials believe that some of his negative polling is at least due to Republican respondents who will always say the economy is suffering unless a Republican is in office.

And earlier on Thursday, White House principal deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton, when pressed on Biden’s poor polling, claimed that Biden’s policies themselves are viewed favorably.

“When you look at things like the bipartisan infrastructure law, when you think look at the Inflation Reduction Act, when you think look at the Chips and Science Act, these are all important accomplishments that have large majorities, large bipartisan majorities of support from the American people,” she told reporters traveling with the president to Philadelphia.
