Whistleblower Joe Ziegler told the House Oversight Committee that he did not leak information about the investigation into Hunter Biden.
In his first public testimony, the whistleblower previously known as “Whistleblower X” was asked by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-KY) if he had ever leaked any investigative information to the public.

Burchett did not specify what information he was referring to; however, he might have been referencing a report from the group Marco Polo, which released more than 10,000 images from Hunter Biden’s laptop. It was released by a former Trump aide named Garrett Ziegler, who isn’t related to Joe Ziegler.
“So there’s two parts of this,” Joe Ziegler responded to Burchett. “There was that release of that bank report; my name was listed in there. So my name was out in the public as one of the IRS agents working this case, and that was maybe two or three years ago. So that came out. And then on top of that, me and my husband were, in a report that’s out on social media, on Twitter, by a person with the same last name that I have, who I’ve never met, I’ve never turned over information to, we just happen to have the same last name.”
Garrett Ziegler is also the founder of Marco Polo, which released a report in 2022 that included photos of Joe Ziegler and his husband, blaming the “lack of accountability” of the Hunter Biden investigation on the “makeup and presumed biases” of those involved in the inquiry.
More recently, Garrett Ziegler told Steve Bannon on his podcast last month he believed those involved in the Hunter Biden investigation were starting to come forward “because they don’t want to be the fall guys.”
Joe Ziegler denied the accusations that he leaked any information regarding the investigation, calling it an effort to discredit him.
Joe Ziegler, who is gay and a Democrat, had been attacked by some conservative critics who held him as a negative example of someone serving in the IRS after it was revealed that he was working on the Hunter Biden case.

“I was, for my sexuality, my sexual orientation. My husband was put out there. … So it was in an effort to discredit me, that I’m this person, working for the liberal side, and I must be a plant, and it was awful the things that they were saying about me,” Joe Ziegler said. “But I can tell you that I’ve never turned over any information regarding this case to anyone — anyone related to that Marco Polo report or someone with the same last name that I have.”
