House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is holding a press conference while the House Oversight Committee continues to hear testimony from two IRS agents.
McCarthy’s press conference comes as IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler, the latter known as “Whistleblower X” before the hearing, give testimony on their roles in the Hunter Biden investigation.
The Hunter Biden case has been a target of House GOP leaders since Republicans took the majority in the 2022 midterm elections. Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are investigating an “alleged criminal scheme” on behalf of President Joe Biden and his family, which encompasses Hunter Biden’s connection to foreign companies and his recent tax evasion plea deal.
The younger Biden reached a plea deal with U.S. Attorney David Weiss of Delaware in June, which included two misdemeanor tax charges and a felony gun charge that is expected to be dropped after a probationary period.

Shapley and Ziegler were not expected to present new information at Wednesday’s committee hearing but instead offered new details into the extent of the Justice Department’s involvement in the Hunter Biden case.
McCarthy will begin the press conference at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.
