Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has built up a campaign war chest not only larger than his California Senate opponents but also both major parties and all presidential candidates.

Schiff’s Senate campaign reported $29,800,863.87 in cash on hand at the end of the second quarter, from April 1 to June 30, per Federal Election Commission filings posted earlier this month.

That figure far exceeds his two top opponents in the California Senate primary. Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) recorded $10,383,669.44 on hand at the end of the second quarter, whereas Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) recorded $1,400,816.73 on hand.

While Schiff has a $19 million advantage over Porter, he also has more cash on hand than any candidate running for president in that same period.

Among the campaigns of the declared 2024 presidential candidates, Former President Donald Trump reported $22,516,390.86 on hand at the end of the second quarter, President Joe Biden reported $20,125,373.93 on hand at the end of the second quarter, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) reported $12,239,427.96 on hand at the end of the second quarter.

Both political parties also reported less cash on hand than Schiff, with the Democratic National Committee reporting $27,164,625.39 on hand at the end of the second quarter and the Republican National Committee reporting $12,729,531.54 at the end of the second quarter.

“It’s abundantly clear that Adam’s message and record of results are resonating with the people of California,” Schiff campaign manager Brad Elkins said in a press release announcing the initial second quarter finances for the campaign.

The California Senate race is expected to be one of the fiercest intra-party Senate campaigns of the 2024 cycle. Because of California’s primary system, the top two candidates in the March 2024 primary, regardless of party, are the only ones who advance to the general election in November 2024.

Current polling shows two Southern California Democrats, Schiff and Porter, likely to advance to the general election. A recent poll from the Public Policy Institute of California shows Porter with an edge, 19%, over Schiff, 16%.
