Food stamps: Final direct payment worth up to $1,116 to arrive in Washington in three days

Washington state residents have three more days to receive their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments before the program ends for July.

Recipients usually see their SNAP benefits reloaded on the same day each month, with the date depending on a recipient’s Social Security number, last name, case number, or account number. The range of dates varies by state.

In Washington, food stamp payments are issued between July 1 and July 20. Several other states follow a similar payment period.

Individuals living in Washington must meet certain income requirements, and they must be U.S. citizens or lawfully admitted residents who meet the five-year residency requirement.

A household of one can receive up to $281 in SNAP benefits, a household of three can receive up to $740, and a household of five can receive a maximum of $1,116.

Approximately 18%, or 310,900 Washington residents, receive food stamps. The average payment per household member each month is $168.

SNAP benefit recipients across all 50 states and the District of Columbia will see the amount transferred to a prepaid electronic benefit transfer card. The EBT card works similarly to a debit card and can be used at grocery stores and farmers markets or at some online retailers. The money is intended for purchasing healthy foods.
