
AOC endorses Biden reelection campaign after supporting Bernie Sanders in 2020 primary

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) endorsed President Joe Biden for reelection in 2024 on Friday.
The outspoken congresswoman, who is a member of a group of four progressive congresswomen dubbed “the squad,” revealed her support for the president’s campaign on the Pod Save America podcast on Friday.

Asked if she would support the president, she said, “I believe, given that field, yes.
“I think he’s done quite well given the limitations that we have,” she added, noting, “There are ebbs and flows as there are in any presidency.”

She praised both the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act that went into effect under Biden’s administration, adding that the IRA “was a massive step in terms of our climate agenda.”
However, the New York Democrat said there are still areas of Biden’s presidency that need improvement.
According to her, “We have major structural issues in this country.” The most important thing, she explained, is electing senators “that are willing to stand up and stare the filibuster in the eyes, and stare a lot of structural issues about the Senate in the United States. And it will be what holds back this country from an enormous amount of progress.”

During the 2020 Democratic primary, Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who ultimately lost to Biden.
In a recent poll from Echelon Insights, Biden beats former President Donald Trump in a 2024 general election match up 45% to 44%. In a match-up with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Biden bests the Florida Republican 45% to 42%.
