LIHEAP payments: Arkansas benefits for energy costs arrive in six days

Eligible residents in Arkansas can expect assistance payments from the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program beginning in just six days.
The benefits are scheduled to be sent for July in 19 counties on July 10 to those who completed applications and were approved, per the Central Arkansas Development Council.

Counties in Arkansas that will begin distributing the benefits on July 10 include Calhoun, Clark, Columbia, Dallas, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Lonoke, Miller, Montgomery, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Pulaski, Saline, Sevier, and Union counties.
The payments are designed to help those who need help paying for cooling devices or upgrades to cooling devices during the hot summer months.
The maximum benefit for cooling assistance from LIHEAP in Arkansas is $475, while the minimum amount beneficiaries can receive is $48.
To qualify for the benefits, applicants must fall below a certain monthly countable income. To be eligible for a household of one, the maximum monthly countable income is $1,936, while for a household of five, the maximum monthly countable income is $4,318.

Applications for cooling assistance under LIHEAP in the state are set to close on Sept. 30.
Cooling assistance through LIHEAP is available in 28 states and Washington, D.C., with each jurisdiction offering different amounts of money for assistance to help low-income citizens stay cool during warm weather.
