Georgia police arrest man suspected of shooting teenager campaigning for Warnock

Georgia police have arrested a man suspected to have shot a teenager outside his home on Thursday.
Jimmy Paiz, 42, was arrested by police at the residence for suspicion of shooting a teenager, according to preliminary investigations. The 15-year-old was campaigning for Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) when Paiz fired a gun through the closed front door of a house, striking the teenager in the leg, according to the Savannah Police Department.
“The case remains under investigation,” a press release from the department read. “At this point, there is no indication the shooting was politically motivated.”

Paiz has been booked into the Chatham County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to police.
The male victim was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Warnock said in a statement that he is “saddened to learn about this incident” and is “praying for the victim and their family and wish them a full recovery.”

Warnock is set to face off against Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a runoff election on Dec. 6. Early voting in Georgia has been ongoing, with approximately 1,144,076 Georgians already having cast their votes in person and via absentee ballots.
The Washington Examiner contacted Walker’s campaign for comment.
