CALIFORNIA REPARATIONS: WHAT NEWSOM HAS SAID AHEAD OF TASK FORCE’S FINAL PROPOSAL

The briefing comes after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against affirmative action. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan dissented in the Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented in the University of North Carolina case, joined by Sotomayor and Kagan. Jackson recused herself from the Harvard case due to her past service on the university board.

With the court’s ruling, race cannot be considered when colleges and universities go through admission processes. The Supreme Court had been mulling the case since November.
