Tucker Carlson claimed there is hypocrisy behind calling the war in Ukraine a war for “democracy” in the latest episode of his podcast.
Since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, lawmakers in Congress and White House officials from former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre have maintained America must support Ukraine against Russia to defend democracy in Eastern Europe and around the world.

“As Pelosi puts it, ‘The Ukrainian people are fighting the fight for their democracy and for ours as well,'” Carlson said on Tucker on Twitter.
“Without Ukrainian democracy, in other words, we can have no democracy here. If the Ukrainians aren’t free, neither are we. We must make sure they can vote in Kyiv so we can continue to vote in Kansas City.”
Notions such as these are hypocritical because Zelensky has barred democracy, according to the former Fox News host.
“It looks like they’re not going to be able to vote in Kyiv anymore, and, no, for once, it’s not Putin’s fault,” Carlson said. “Democracy in Ukraine seems to be suspended by the world’s foremost democracy advocate himself, Field Marshal Zelensky.”
Carlson referred to the measure announced by the Ukrainian president that no elections would be held during wartime because, as Zelensky said, “Elections should be held in peacetime.”
“He says, ‘If we win, we’ll let people vote. Otherwise, no, you vote when we feel like it because, ultimately, we’re completely in charge and make all the rules. Your job is to obey or be punished,'” Carlson said.
“That’s not just any autocrat. That’s our chief ally in the war for democracy.”

Despite this, President Joe Biden noted that the nation is steadfast in its support of Ukraine, Carlson said.
“We are fighting a war for democracy on behalf of a leader who just casually announced he’s happy to end democracy, and our democracy-supporting leaders have no problem with that,” Carlson said. “Shocked? You shouldn’t be.”
