President Joe Biden will meet Britain’s Prince William and his wife Catherine, the Princess of Wales, in Boston on Friday, during the royal couple’s first trip to the United States in eight years, the White House announced Wednesday.

Details on the president’s schedule in Boston are still being finalized. However, the meeting is expected to occur Friday afternoon at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, unnamed sources told CBS News.

“The president intends to greet the prince and princess of Wales when he is in Boston,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a press briefing. “We are still finalizing and working through the details.”

The British royal couple will be in Boston to promote their climate change initiative, the Earthshot Prize, and will honor the winners of the prize Friday night. The couple will also attend other climate-related events with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. The visit marks the first overseas trip for the royal couple since the death of Queen Elizabeth II and their first stateside trip in eight years.

William, the heir apparent to the British throne, will also take a tour of Kennedy’s presidential library, led by Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy and current ambassador to Australia. Kate will attend an early childhood education event at Harvard University.

Biden will be in Boston separately for a Senate fundraising event. The visits were not organized together, but palace officials and the White House said they are trying to take advantage of the overlap, according to the Daily Mail.

The visit comes one day after Biden met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Biden’s first state visit and dinner. Macron is expected to visit New Orleans on Friday, marking the first French presidential trip to the formerly French city in 45 years.
