Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) slammed House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) after a spat between the two went viral.
During a House Oversight hearing on regulations regarding pilots, Ocasio-Cortez expressed concern over some Republicans’ efforts to reduce the number of training hours required for pilots in order to solve a pilot shortage. Following a tense exchange, Ocasio-Cortez posted on Twitter about the encounter with Comer, portraying herself as getting the better of him.

“Whatās unique about hearings is that itās just you, a witness, and 5 unfiltered minutes. You either sink or swim on your own effort. Fox News & tech billionaires canāt save you here. If youāre not on point, thereās nowhere to hide. and thatās where I wait,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, alongside an emoji with sunglasses.

The interaction she was referring to started after she expressed her initial opposition to Republicans’ proposed policy of cutting back the number of hours pilots must have in training before being certified, which was interrupted by Comer.
āIām amused that the gentlelady is concerned about raising the age regulation that limits the age for pilots when thereās a shortage of pilots, but theyāre OK with a president of the United States whoās more than 20 years older than the minimum age,ā he said.
However, Ocasio-Cortez interjected, saying that she wasn’t referring to age.
āMr. Chairman, since youāre referring to me, itās not age. Itās training-hour time ā the number of hours that an individualās training, not the age,ā she said.

āWell, part of the regulation is the age as well,ā Comer retorted.
Ocasio-Cortez’s taunt could clear the way for further tension between the two lawmakers and further efforts from the two to upstage each other during hearings.
