A Texas homeowner is recovering after he survived a deadly Saturday shootout with burglars he confronted as they were attempting to steal from his garage.

The 60-year-old homeowner, identified as a Houston native, was shot through the thigh and suffered multiple bruises and scrapes after he was made aware of the burglary around 3:00 a.m., according to a report.

His Ring camera alerted him that at least two men with backpacks were leaving his garage with a box filled with tools.

After seeing this, the man grabbed his firearm and tracked the two down.

The thieves shot the homeowner in the leg, but he returned fire and killed one of them, according to the report.

The other individual was wounded but managed to escape through a broken fence.

Saturday morning’s shootout was just one of 17 shootings that occurred in Houston between Friday and Sunday.

At least nine deaths and 17 injuries are attributed to those shootings.

“Busy weekend, and it happens from time to time,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said. “But, I want to let people know that crime is still down.”

A resident in the homeowner’s gated community disagrees with Finner.

“It’s not true,” the neighbor said. “You hear gunshots all the time. We have a Ring thing. The Ring thing goes off all the time. ‘Did you hear the gunshots over there? Did you hear the gunshots over here?'”

Police maintain the homeowner acted in self-defense.
