Comedian Jim Carrey announced his exit from social media platform Twitter shortly after billionaire Elon Musk’s takeover.
“I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much! ;^j” he tweeted Tuesday.

In the tweet, Carrey included an animated short featuring a naked, singing lighthouse keeper.
According to Carrey’s biography on the platform, the account is his only official social media.
He did not cite a reason for his leaving the platform, but the timing as well as his history speaking on politics suggest it might have something to do with Musk. With the move, he joins a growing list of celebrities who have announced their choices to leave the platform.

However, some are staying on the site to fight back. Actress Alyssa Milano told the hosts of The View that she will remain on Twitter because she sees it as a “turf war.” She warned that activists cannot “cede that territory.”
Under Musk’s ownership, Twitter recently announced it is dropping its pandemic-era COVID-19 misinformation policy. The policy involved suppressing tweets and accounts that shared “potentially harmful and misleading information.”
