Wayne Gretzky’s last-ever game-worn jersey smashed records Sunday when it sold for $715,120 at auction.

The iconic #99 New York Rangers jersey surpassed USA Hockey legend Mike Eruzione’s “Miracle On Ice” jersey, which sold for $657,250, garnering the highest sale price of any United States-based hockey jersey, according to a report.

“The Great One” wore the red, white, and blue sweater on April 18, 1999, when he scored his 2,857th and final point in the National Hockey League.

Prior to its auction, the jersey had been exhibited in Madison Square Garden’s “Defining Moments” Museum until 2019.

Sunday’s sale through Grey Flannel Auctions represents the first time the jersey was offered to the public, with a letter of authentication and testimony from John Rosasco, the Rangers longest-serving head of communications, the report noted.

Along with this sale, Gretzky is also behind the most expensive jersey in hockey history.

His final Edmonton Oilers sweater sold for $1.452 million, also with Grey Flannel Auctions.

Widely recognized as the greatest hockey player of all time, Gretzky won four Stanley Cups, nine Hart Trophies as the NHL’s most valuable player, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.

He is one of three total athletes to have a number retired league-wide, and his points record is unlikely to ever be broken.
