Man suspected of stabbing at least 6 children at French playground apprehended

A man suspected of running onto a playground in France and stabbing at least six children on Thursday was shot and apprehended by police responding to the scene.
The attack occurred at the Jardins de l’Europe in Annecy, France, Le Dauphine reported, adding that emergency responders, police, and the military are on the site to secure its safety and care for the victims, some of which are three years old.

Three victims are reportedly in critical condition. The suspect is believed to be about 32 years old and of Syrian origin.
Witnesses told the news outlet that the attack took place at about 9:45 a.m. local time. Another group of children from a kindergarten class were also in the park at the time of the stabbing.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed that the suspect was arrested, while also suggesting at least one adult was also injured in the attack.
“Several people including children were injured by an individual armed with a knife in a square in Annecy. The individual was arrested thanks to the very rapid intervention of the police,” Darmanin tweeted.
