WATCH LIVE: Chris Christie announces his 2024 presidential run

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is set to announce his 2024 presidential run and join the likes of former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in the race for the White House.

Christie joining the growing field of Republicans comes hours after he filled out the paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday. The former governor is joining the race as an alternative to Trump, whom he has criticized many times since the former president left the White House in 2021.

The former governor is polling at 1% of support among likely Republican primary voters. Trump and DeSantis, the two front-runners of the Republican primary race, have 56% support and 39% support, respectively.

The event is set to begin at 6:15 p.m.
