President Joe Biden has struggled with approval ratings for the past year and a half, and a new survey shows no sign of that stopping.

A NewsNation and Decision Desk HQ poll showed 54.24% of those surveyed saying they either somewhat or strongly disapprove of the president’s job performance.

THE FIGHTS THAT LIE AHEAD IN CONGRESS WITH DEBT CEILING IN REARVIEW

The survey of 1,000 registered voters from May 25-26 showed that 17.9% strongly approve of Biden, 28.86% somewhat approve of the president, 16.58% somewhat disapprove of Biden, and 36.66% strongly disapprove of the president.

Biden has had a higher disapproval rating than approval rating since the withdrawal of U.S. soldiers from Afghanistan in August 2021, with the uncertainty of the debt ceiling appearing to fuel a recent uptick in his disapproval rating, per the RealClearPolitics polling average.

The two top concerns voters expressed in the poll were inflation, 55%, and crime, 18.7%. Inflation has been a persistent issue for Biden during his presidency, with the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge rising in April after months of decline.

The president announced a reelection bid for 2024 in April but has only seen his approval decrease since then, per the average. Biden, 80, is the oldest U.S. president in history.

Recent polling has also suggested that Biden is slipping with key voting blocs, including Hispanics, the working class, and young voters. Strong performance among those groups helped Biden win the White House in 2020 and will be key to him winning another four years in 2024.

Biden’s unpopularity combined with current GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump‘s unpopularity has nearly half of voters saying they would consider a third-party candidate if the 2024 election ends up being a rematch of the 2020 election, per the survey.
