An Oklahoma assistant district attorney has been fired after he was arrested while allegedly in possession of child pornography.

Kevin Etherington, 53, the former assistant district attorney of Logan and Payne counties, is facing one charge of violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act and at least one count of aggravated possession of child pornography, according to a report.

Etherington was arrested after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in September.

A search warrant relating to the tip was carried out on Etherington’s home Monday, and he was taken into custody.

“I cannot express how dismayed and disappointed I am about this development,” District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas said. “I personally find the manufacture, distribution and possession of child pornography to be both disgusting and incredibly damaging to individual victims and society.”

Thomas confirmed that Etherington has been fired.

“While the accused stands innocent of the alleged crime until proven guilty, my review of the investigation has resulted in this person’s dismissal from employment by my office,” Thomas said.
