California judge robbed at gunpoint outside courthouse

A California judge was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday morning outside of a court house in Oakland, according to local media reports.
The Alameda County Superior Court judge was not injured during the robbery, which occurred in the parking garage near the courthouse. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said the judge, who has not been named, was robbed of his personal belongings, which included a Rolex watch, according to Fox News.

The suspects in the robbery have been described as three men wearing masks and traveling in a light-colored Hyundai. They are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 22. It is unclear whether they have been arrested.
The crime comes amid a spike in strong-arm robberies in Oakland. The city saw 100 robberies occur in the span of one week in May, including 50 that occurred during one weekend.
The incident also comes two days after 500 residents attended a City Council meeting to raise concerns about public safety. One resident claimed she was attacked last week outside of her house.
“On the corner of 45th and Shafter, they pulled me down on the ground, punching, kicking, dragging me through the street,” the resident, Denise Lillian, said, according to KTVU-2. “It’s one of the most terrifying things in my life.”
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price has come under fire for her soft-on-crime policies, which include soft punishments for violent crime suspects. In April, Price said she was looking for a way to punish gang members believed to be responsible for the stray-bullet death of a toddler in 2021 without giving them any prison time.

“Alameda County’s woke DA has made a career of putting criminals first, and this lawlessness is the result,” James Gallagher, the Republican leader of the California State Assembly, said. “Every time Democrats reduce consequences for violent criminals, they send a message that it’s OK to victimize people. We need to start holding criminals accountable instead of enabling them.”
Another gang-related shooting occurred on a California interstate in April. It resulted in the death of a 5-year-old who was riding in the backseat of her family’s car.
