Romney compares Trump to a gargoyle, calls him ‘disgusting’ for dinner with Kanye West

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) compared former President Donald Trump to a gargoyle, calling him “disgusting” over his dinner with rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, and far-right personality Nick Fuentes.
Romney, a longtime rival and critic of Trump, took his denouncements to a new level on Tuesday, comparing the former president to a hallmark of gothic architecture. Romney’s criticisms are perhaps the most severe of a growing list of Republican lawmakers who have condemned Trump over the dinner.

“I don’t think he should be president of the United States. I don’t think he should be the nominee of our party in 2024, and I certainly don’t want him hanging over our party like a gargoyle,” Romney said, according to the Independent.
“There is no bottom to the degree to which he’s willing to degrade himself, and the country for that matter,” said the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. He added, “Having dinner with those people was disgusting.”
Trump has faced widespread criticism after having dinner with Ye and Fuentes, though Trump has defended himself by saying he was hoping to help the “seriously troubled man,” referring to Ye. He added that he didn’t invite Fuentes and was unaware of who he was.

In a statement from Fuentes obtained by the Washington Examiner, he said, “I reject all labels other than Christian American.” He has expressed Holocaust denialism, using cookie baking as an analogy for the 6 million Jewish people who died.
“The math doesn’t quite seem to add up there. I don’t think it’d result in 6 million. Maybe 200 to 300,000 cookies,” he said.
