Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young informed the White House press corps that weeks of negotiations on the debt ceiling have left her without any clean clothes.

“I will see my child again,” Young said after taking the podium. “I do have a small confession to make. I’m also out of clean clothes after these last couple weeks.”

DEBT LIMIT DEAL: WHERE IT STANDS AND WHAT IS STILL TO COME

The OMB director joked about how she ran into multiple reporters who watched her scrambling to find an outfit for the press briefing.

“I don’t have time to do laundry or take anything to the dry cleaner,” Young said. “So, that’s about how my last two weeks have gone.”

The national debt ceiling and the possibility of default have dominated headlines over the past few weeks, and the White House and Republican negotiators appear to have crafted a plan to mitigate the impending crisis over Memorial Day weekend.

President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) agreed to the plan, which was announced on Saturday, and both men hope the agreement will be met with the congressional support it requires to pass.

Rather than raise the debt ceiling, the legislation suspends it until after next year’s election cycle, allowing the Treasury to borrow money for the country’s bills until January 2025.

Instead of addressing the details of the legislation first, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called on a reporter who amazed Young with a story about taking his wife to see Beyonce in Paris.

“Phil, who just came back from Beyonce in Paris,” Jean-Pierre called out.

Young’s eyes lit up.

“It was my wife’s 40th birthday present,” the reporter, identified on Twitter as CNN’s Phil Mattingly, replied.
