North Dakota Republican governor eyeing 2024 presidential campaign: Report

The 2024 Republican presidential field could see a new face in the race for the country’s highest office, as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum plans to launch his own campaign, according to a report.
Burgum, who is currently serving his second term in office, is expected to join former president Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the fast-growing race for the White House, according to Reuters.

Burgum won reelection in 2020, and more than two-thirds of voters cast ballots in his favor.
The 66-year-old is a former tech entrepreneur, and he sold his company to Microsoft Corp in 2001 before entering politics, according to Reuters.
Burgum followed in the footsteps of fellow Republican governors in April when he signed one of the nation’s strictest anti-abortion laws and North Dakota’s largest income tax cut in state history.

Also in the GOP’s presidential field is former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley — she was polling at 4% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from May 9-15.
