Blanche backs Trump call for DOJ investigation into Democratic impeachment push

Attorney General Todd Blanche on Sunday supported President Donald Trump’s call for the Department of Justice to investigate Democrats over threats of impeachment and investigations into the Trump administration.

“They’re threatening current members of the administration. They’re threatening American companies who’ve invested in jobs, invested in manufacturing. At some point, we have to say enough is enough. That is not the way this country can survive or live, with these ongoing threats,” Blanche said in a Fox News Sunday interview.

Blanche referred specifically to a statement Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) made earlier this fall, in which she suggested young Republicans should question whether or not they want to work for a Trump administration that may be subject to future Democratic investigations. The comment drew backlash from Trump himself and Republicans, including Blanche, who said Sunday, “that is not something we can tolerate in this country.”

Blanche also pointed to Rep. Robert Garcia’s (D-CA) election-night warning, telling the Trump administration to “lawyer up” after the midterm election results began to show a positive trend for Democrats.

“If these threats, telling our people to ‘lawyer up,’ if that’s what these new incoming leadership wants to do, we are ready. And if you work in this administration, you have a lawyer: It’s me. We will defend you,” Blanche said.

Republicans have warned since the start of the midterm election cycle that Democrats would target the Trump administration with investigations, ramping up their calls for defense as the Democrats have taken the House by a wide margin.

Democrats won at least 254 seats in the House, with 19 races left to be called, and at least 54 seats in the U.S. Senate, with two Senate races left to be called.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has backed articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth, as the Pentagon official is likely to be an early target of Democratic inquiries.
