Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York warned that Democrats plan to target Elon Musk and other political figures for possible corruption if they gain control of Congress.
“We know that they, and because they’ve been very public about it, they plan a lot of investigations,” York said Tuesday on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “They plan investigations of the Trump family; they plan investigations of all sorts of parts of the government, of ICE, and of Musk.”
Democrats are planning to probe Musk for any corruption if they win the House in the midterm elections, according to a report from Politico. The world’s richest man angered Democrats with his tenure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency at President Donald Trump’s behest.
“The message [Democrats] want to send, if they control even one house of Congress, is, ‘Don’t you ever do this again,’” York said.
York said that Democrats hope to cripple the president for his last two years in office.
“Well, they have a big helping of revenge in store, or I certainly think so,” York said.
Musk led DOGE with the goal of eliminating fraud and wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money. One instance of “obvious waste” uncovered by DOGE included claims that USAID spent $47,000 to support a transgender opera in Colombia, York said.
“You know, a lot of Republicans kind of laughed at that, and they thought that was clear and obvious waste, but Democrats were actually quite enraged at them stopping this,” York said.
Democrats are seeking to look into Musk’s government contracts, and whether he had a role in preventing internet access to the Ukrainian military.
“What happens when one guy gets a giant contract from the government and then uses it to do something that shuts down communication in a war that has been extremely important to the United States to support Ukraine?” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, told Politico. “There’s a lot of different parts of the corruption around Musk.”
Musk had responded to some of the allegations on X, writing, “Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government. Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS.”
While discussing the Democrats’ plans to investigate Musk, host Laura Ingraham asked York, “How does that make anyone richer in the United States? How does that bring down gas prices?”
MUSK AND TRUMP WANT TO KILL THE CFPB. REPUBLICAN VOTERS BEG TO DIFFER
“You know, that’s what the Democrats used to say when Republicans did oversight,” York said.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Musk’s team and Democrats, including Jayapal, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY) for comment.
