Ilhan Omar fundraises over federal raid: ‘Very expensive and challenging time’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spoke out about the federal raid on her Washington, D.C., home, asking her supporters to keep donating to her reelection campaign as she stands three weeks out from the midterm elections.

Omar released a TikTok video on Tuesday evening, addressing the Department of Homeland Security’s overnight raid on her home on Oct. 12. She thanked her supporters who sent her messages after the raid and who donated money to her reelection campaign.

“That goes a long way as we fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many people right before the midterm elections,” Omar said in the video. “We know that they’re running scared. We’re not going to be intimidated. We’re not going to be silenced.”

She closed out her first on-camera message to the public about the incident with a call for more donations.

“Thank you so much again, and please continue to support us,” Omar said in the video. “It is going to be a very expensive and challenging time, and so we appreciate whether you’re able to send $5, $10, $20. Thank you.”

Agents from ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations unit conducted the raid on Omar’s house in mid-October. The search warrant was obtained by the Department of Justice as part of a federal criminal investigation, the DOJ said.

Vice President JD Vance had said back in May that the DOJ was investigating reports that Omar’s previous husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, was allegedly her biological brother, whom she married to help him legally live in the United States. Omar has also faced allegations from Republicans that she was connected to the fraud scandals rocking Minnesota. Omar has denied the allegations and any wrongdoing.

Omar previously addressed the raid of her home in a written statement, calling it “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” Omar said in the Oct. 12 statement. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

The day after the raid, she also solicited donations through a text blast, asking her supporters to help her “fight back” against President Donald Trump’s administration.
