The White House chimed in on a viral Saturday Night Live performance by comedian Shane Gillis, sharing an image of its take on “what to wear to the gym.”
“We heard people have strong opinions on what to wear at the gym. Here’s our opinion,” the White House said on X Thursday, posting a picture of a stick figure with a ponytail and a red “Make America Great Again” hat.
The post came after Gillis faced backlash over his SNL monologue where he called girls “whores” for how they dress at the gym.
“I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dressed like whores now?” Gillis said Oct. 10.
He added there’s “no other way to describe” what he was seeing.
“The shorts. Have you seen the shorts?”
“They’re like artificial bait colored, and the wrinkles go around the cheeks, and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look, because they are filming,” Gillis said.
Gillis’s comments sparked outrage online, with people saying women can wear what they want, and igniting a broader conversation about how women are portrayed.
The White House leaned into the controversy with its post of a stick figure woman taking a gym selfie.
Actor and co-creator of Schitt’s Creek Dan Levy called out the comedian in a viral Instagram reel.
“Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores, misogynists. There’s a difference there,” Levy said.
“They are not objects, they are superior beings to men,” he continued.
Gillis also starred in the Netflix show Tires. In season 3, which debuted Aug. 13, the actor went to the gym and stared at a woman squatting in short shorts.
In the Tires episode, the comedian is caught on camera by the squatting woman’s boyfriend, who is secretly filming people who stare.
“That’s your girlfriend? If I were you. I’d get her some f***ing slacks. I mean, good for you for letting her out of the house like that. If it was me, I’d have her in a f***ing burka, dude. I’d be Sharia on her,” Gillis said.
Gillis has not commented about the reactions to his SNL performance.

Gillis broke two Guinness World Records in 2026, with the largest attendance for a comedian and the most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian, both at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
He also made history in Washington, D.C., in 2025 with the highest-attended show at Capital One Arena.
