Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took shots at the Trump administration and criticized President Donald Trump’s press secretaries in light of Katie Zacharia’s debut in the role.
“I think they have a certain look in mind, a certain type, and that’s how they choose,” Clinton said Wednesday on her new podcast, High Stakes with HRC. “It doesn’t really matter to them the job, or whether they can answer questions, as long as they have a certain look.”
The show is in collaboration with podcaster Kara Swisher’s On with Kara Swisher.
The weekly podcast dives into important issues for voters ahead of the midterm elections.
“She would be disqualified in any other administration,” Clinton said, and referred to now-deleted social media posts discovered by CNN in which Zacharia accused prominent figures, including Democratic operative John Podesta, of pedophilia.
Podesta was a central target of the debunked Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which falsely alleged that prominent Democrats were involved in child sex trafficking.
Clinton said “that kind of set of views” is disqualifying.
She maintained that the president continues to pick people such as Zacharia because it is “obvious” he “likes the way they look.”
Zacharia made her debut as White House press secretary on Tuesday, after her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, left the position in August to spend more time with her family following the birth of her second child in May.
Zacharia appeared nervous, stumbled over her words, and took only three questions from the press gallery.
Trump “has an obsession with how people look,” Clinton said. “That’s why they all go get plastic surgery, women and men alike. That’s why they wear the shoes that he gives them even though they don’t fit their feet. I mean, it’s a crazy cult.”
Clinton referred to Trump’s habit of gifting Cabinet members $145 Florsheim shoes, which the Wall Street Journal uncovered in March. A day after, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was seen wearing shoes much too large for him, sparking debate about whether Cabinet members were too afraid to tell Trump he purchased the wrong size.
HILLARY CLINTON ANNOUNCES NEW PODCAST AHEAD OF MIDTERM ELECTIONS
“I don’t know of any other administration literally in American history that is that weird and runs like that,” Clinton said.
The first episode of the podcast, “High Stakes with HRC: The Affordability Episode,” can be viewed on Spotify.
