Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) solicited donations Tuesday after federal law enforcement raided her Washington, D.C., home, sending out a fundraiser text asking for funds to help her “fight back” against the Trump administration.
The message opened by addressing the Department of Homeland Security’s search of her home, calling it “the latest step in their ludicrous, partisan investigation into my immigration status.” She repeatedly framed the search as President Donald Trump attempting to silence “the entire progressive movement.”
“This is a critical moment for our democracy, and we must be decisive,” the text said. “Please stand by me and our movement by splitting a contribution between me and PCCC’s efforts to defeat MAGA this fall, to help me fight back in the face of Trump’s abuse of power.”
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has frequently joined forces with Omar and endorsed her reelection. The organization has not publicly commented on federal agents’ search of the congresswoman’s home.
Homeland Security Investigations conducted the raid of Omar’s home Monday after the Department of Justice authorized a search warrant as part of a reported investigation into the congresswoman’s immigration paperwork. Omar immigrated to the United States from Somalia and is the first Somali-born U.S. lawmaker.
HSI focuses on investigating, disrupting, and dismantling transnational criminal organizations and terrorist networks that threaten or seek to exploit federal customs and immigration laws, while Immigration and Customs Enforcement focuses on detaining and removing illegal immigrants. Omar endorses abolishing ICE.
Omar painted the raid as a move by Trump to change focus as the midterm elections quickly approach.
“This is part of the fascist playbook to rile up Trump’s die-hard supporters and give them a big distraction in advance of the midterms,” Omar’s message said. “With this obviously political investigation, Trump is telling his voters: ‘Ignore the price of gas, ignore the war in Iran, ignore that you’re losing your healthcare — we want you to get angry about this instead.”

“This is a ludicrous investigation, and Trump’s escalation is only further proof that he is willing to use the power of the federal government to try to intimidate and silence anyone who stands up to him,” the text continued. “It’s up to us to make sure it doesn’t work. Please split a donation between me and the PCCC’s work to defeat MAGA, and help us fight back.”
According to Federal Election Commission filings, Omar had $1.3 million in cash on hand at the end of July. Her district in Minnesota is rated as “solid Democrat” by the Cook Political Report, and she secured more than 70% of the vote in 2024.
