Sydney Sweeney doubles down with latest ‘1950s pinup’ ad instead of ‘groveling’ to critics: Tiana Lowe Doescher

Washington Examiner economics columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher praised actress Sydney Sweeney, for being able to ‘stick it’ to critics of her provocative ad with an encore.

“Instead of responding with a groveling apology, Sydney Sweeney, who says she’s wearing a double D bra when she’s actually wearing one, doubled down with a sequel last week,” Doescher said Monday on Newsmax’s The Right Squad.

Sweeney was criticized in September for starring in a sports-betting ad for Novig, in which she was seen wearing little to no clothing. The ad angered several female athletes, including gymnast Gracie Kramer, who believed the actress was sending the wrong message about “women in sports.” Instead of an apology, Sweeney once again starred in a scandalous ad with Novig, which begins with a rearview of the actress walking in only underwear.

“There’s grown men making spreadsheets to bet on what color underwear I’m wearing,” Sweeney said in her latest ad. “I mean, I’m flattered? There’s trading on dictators dying and armies of bots manipulating it all. There’s someone sitting in a bathroom stall betting on a war, and then, there’s people who just bet on sports. Novig is just sports.”

Doescher said this was how to “stick it to your critics” after “the left went bonkers” over Sweeney’s original ad.

“I find it very funny that the same super duper sex-positive culture, the same culture that says you’re supposed to find a seven-person frat house gang-bang empowering, get super offended by what is effectively a 1950s pinup ad,” Doescher said.

Doescher was referencing the lawsuit by Jane Doe, a Cornell University student who said she was raped and forcibly drugged by seven men during a 2024 fraternity party after initially consenting to a threesome.

Doescher said liberals wouldn’t have the same criticism of Novig’s ad if it featured someone who didn’t look like Sweeney.

“If she were like 400 pounds with like a blue mullet, wouldn’t they find this empowering?” Doescher said.
